The Minister of Agriculture, Hon. Daniel Chongolo (MP), has urged Directors and Chief Executives of the Ministry’s institutions to establish sustainable strategies to expand markets and trade in order to further strengthen the agriculture sector.
He made these remarks during a working session with the Heads of Institutions from the Tanzania Sisal Board (TSB); the Tanzania Plant Health and Pesticides Authority (TPHPA); the Tanzania Tea Board; the Tanzania Fertilizer Regulatory Authority (TFRA); and the Tanzania Fertilizer Company, held on 26 November 2025 in Dodoma.
Regarding the Tanzania Sisal Board, he directed the Board to swiftly follow up on the recovery of its assets and buildings so that it can begin expanding its agricultural and commercial activities in the sisal sector.
For TPHPA, he instructed the Authority to work closely with stakeholders from cross-cutting sectors such as NEMC in order to have strategies for addressing emergencies when they arise, to prevent any harm to the environment and human health.
Speaking about the Tanzania Fertilizer Company, Minister Chongolo said, “It is important for institutions to operate with an Agribusiness approach so that services reach the final beneficiary—the farmer. Only then will productivity outcomes be achieved, thereby increasing institutional revenues and farmers’ incomes.”
On subsidized fertilizer, Minister Chongolo stated that TFRA should conduct an assessment of the distribution balance among beneficiaries, especially smallholder farmers and large-scale commercial farmers, in order to establish better strategies to uplift small farmers.
In conclusion, Minister Chongolo directed all institutions under the Ministry of Agriculture to have a small team of experts responsible for analyzing, assessing, and advising leaders whenever any issue arises, to ensure continuous improvement and productivity for farmers.
